A People of Disciple Makers

Vision Weekend is only in its second year of existence for CrossPoint, but it’s already become a weekend to remember and something I look forward to annually.

This year, I hope you were able to experience Vision Weekend for yourself, but if not, here is a link to relive the moment with us: Vision Weekend

We are still living the vision that we established more than a year ago, and even seeing some amazing progress. The 20 x 30 vision means we want to have 20 CrossPoint locations by the year 2030. This last year we added both Ellsworth and Russell to the CrossPoint family, so we’re making headway! But, that means we have to continue moving forward at least a location every year.

If you were with us for Vision Weekend, you’ll remember, it’s not about just planting churches; because the church is not an organization, it’s people.

If we want to be a church of planters, we must be a people of disciple makers. Everyday missionaries, sharing their faith and leading others to growth in Christ face to face.

If that’s not happening, replanting is pointless. There’s something about the gospel that is grassroots and organic, it can’t be institutionalized. When we do that, we kill the movement of the Holy Spirit, and the growth that only God can give.

But, when individuals are seeking to follow the Lord, growing in Him, and being disciple makers… that’s where it all begins, and that’s where it ends.

That’s why our discipleship challenge from Vision Weekend is so important. It was a seven-day challenge for you to find that one person who you will share the faith with, or link arms with to grow in Christ. But you do realize that the seven-day challenge was just a taste of what life should be like for the everyday missionary, right?

If we are going to be who God wants us to be, and do more than even we know how to ask or imagine through Him, then we’re going to have to be those everyday missionaries again, and again, and again.

I hope that this is the beginning of something beautiful, for every part and everyone at CrossPoint. May the beauty of the gospel as we’ve experienced it and know it, be a natural link to us sharing it with others and helping others grow in their faith. If you’re a mom or dad, start at home with the kiddos. If you have friends that are close or far from Christ, simply be Jesus to them and intentionally have Gospel conversations.

Or, if you’re an old hat at this Faith thing, look around. We are the kind of church that has drawn people that are looking to grow and make a difference. Wrap your arms around them and make a difference in the name of Jesus.

CrossPoint Sterling

God is moving in CrossPoint Sterling. Now I know that is a loaded statement, but let me explain. Our CrossPoint Students ministry has doubled in attendance over the last year. We are currently averaging between 40 and 50 students each week. In the past we’ve averaged between 15 and 20 students. But numerical growth is one thing, spiritual growth is another. Just before Christmas we had a female student give her life to Christ! Praise God! Each week our students are learning the importance of knowing God’s word and how to let the light of Jesus shine in their daily life. Our students are embracing the truth of the gospel and their lives are being changed by it. God is moving is a big statement, but He truly is at work in the lives of our students.

Join us in prayer:

  • We would love people well and that would translate over to people loving Jesus.
  • Our hearts would have a hunger for God’s word.
  • For our summer mission team as they are planning and preparing for their trip to Alaska.

Preparing Your Heart For Easter

You’ve heard it said, “It’s Friday… But Sunday is coming!”

We don’t experience the same emotions Mary, the mother of Jesus, felt on that Friday we call good. Her son had died. It was anything but a good Friday for her.

We haven’t lost hope like the disciples did (who walked with Jesus for three years of his earthly ministry) when he breathed his last. They gave up their livelihoods to follow him, and now he had given up his life. The disciples watched him heal the sick and feed 5000 people with a kid’s sack lunch, and they watched these same people betray him, beat him, and hang him on a tree. The one they believed to be the Messiah had really died.

As 21st-century Christians, we have access to the whole story. We can see that it was necessary for Jesus to die to save us from our sins (Romans 6:23; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24). We can see that Jesus did not stay dead (Mark 16:5-7; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, 15:55; Ephesians 1:20), and he will never die again (Romans 6:9). The apostle Paul said, if Christ has not been raised, then our faith is pointless (1 Corinthians 15:14-19). The resurrection of Jesus is not something we celebrate only one Sunday a year. Our faith hinges on it!

Preparing your heart for Easter is not much different than preparing your heart for worship on the other 51 Sundays of the year. Your time spent Monday-Saturday in God’s Word and in prayer, repenting, and being obedient will directly affect the impact of the Sunday gathering for you. If you aren’t pursuing Jesus Monday through Saturday, you will expect too much from worship services. You will need your preferred songs or style of music. You will need kids to be quiet so you can focus because it’s your only time with God. But if you are pursuing Jesus Monday-Saturday, you can quickly engage your heart in worship, no matter the songs or style of music, because you have many reasons to praise the Lord! You’ll give grace to distracting people, thanking God that he has drawn them to hear the good news of Jesus, too!

So, how might we prepare our hearts for Easter?

Read

Study the accounts leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection. If you don’t know where to start, follow along with the recommended resource below. Don’t read it just for intellectual knowledge; allow your heart to engage with what happened. Think about how Mary must have felt when she watched the events unfold. Put yourself in the disciples' sandals and imagine the emotions and the questions they had as they buried the Messiah. And let your faith arise as you read about your Savior conquering sin, death, and the grave!

Pray

Ask God to awaken your cold and familiar heart to the wonder of the resurrection of Jesus! Thank God for what he has done by sending Jesus to die on your behalf so that you might be forgiven and raising him from the dead so that you might have eternal life!

Share

Talk with others about what Jesus has done in your life. Just like we can’t contain our excitement when our football team makes it to the Super Bowl or when we try a great new restaurant, we can’t help but talk about what Jesus has done in our lives! Let an invite to church for Easter services be the thing that sparks a conversation about Jesus with your family, co-workers, classmates, or teammates.
